What Happened at the End of No Way Home
If you need a quick refresh before getting into the new film, here is where things left off. At the end of No Way Home, Peter Parker made a decision that cost him everything. Doctor Strange cast a spell that made the entire world forget Peter Parker exists. His girlfriend MJ forgot him. His best friend Ned forgot him. Everyone did. Peter still remembers all of it. He remembers MJ, he remembers Ned, he remembers Aunt May dying. He just has to carry that while watching the people he loved most living their lives without any memory of him.
What the Trailer Showed
The trailer picks up four years after No Way Home. Peter is fully alone, no support network, no Stark tech backing him up, just him and the suit protecting New York. And things are going fine, up to a point. There is a shot of Spider-Man being given the key to the city, which raises its own set of questions about how much has changed in New York since the last film.
Then things start going wrong. Peter is going through some kind of physical change, his powers are doing things they have never done before, and he clearly does not understand what is happening to him. There are shots of black eyes, organic web shooters, and what looks like a mutation sequence that fans have already connected to a comic storyline called The Other, where Spider-Man essentially dies and is reborn as something more spider than human.
Bruce Banner, played by Mark Ruffalo, appears to be helping Peter work through whatever this transformation is. That pairing alone is something nobody really expected going into this film.

Why the Release Date Changed
Spider-Man Brand New Day was originally set for July 24, 2026. Sony moved it back a week to July 31 after Christopher Nolan announced The Odyssey for July 17. Nobody wants to open the same weekend as a Nolan film, especially one with a reported budget of 250 million dollars and a cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya. Yes, Tom Holland is also in The Odyssey. He is having quite a summer.
