# Why Does Omni-Man Have No Shoes in Invincible Season 4 and What Episode 5 Just Did to Him
Invincible Season 4 Episode 5, titled Give Us a Moment, is out right now on Prime Video. And while the episode delivers one of the most brutal fight sequences of the entire series with Mark facing Conquest again, the thing people keep bringing up is something they first noticed in Episode 4 — Nolan Grayson has no shoes.
No boots. No footwear of any kind. Just bare feet.
If you thought it was an animation mistake, it is not. Here is what is actually going on.
Why Is Omni-Man Barefoot in Season 4
This is straight from the comics. In Robert Kirkman's original Invincible comic series, Nolan stops wearing shoes or boots in the later issues after his arc shifts from Omni-Man to just Nolan Grayson fighting alongside his son as part of the Coalition of Planets.
The barefoot look is a deliberate character design choice. When Nolan was Omni-Man on Earth, he had a full superhero costume with boots that completed the look of someone performing a role. The costume was part of the disguise, part of the lie. Now that he has abandoned that identity and is fighting for a genuine cause alongside Mark and the Coalition, the design strips back some of that polished superhero presentation.
It is also worth noting that Viltrumites do not actually need boots for any practical reason. They are functionally indestructible. The boots were always aesthetic, part of fitting into the Earth superhero template. Without that pretence, there is no reason to wear them.
The show is staying faithful to how the comics depicted Nolan in this phase of his life. Some fans love it as a detail. Some find it distracting. Either way it is not a mistake and it is not going to be fixed.
What Happened in Episode 5
Episode 5 is where Season 4 really escalates. The episode is built around the rematch between Mark and Conquest, and it is every bit as brutal as the first time. Conquest is one of the few Viltrumites who genuinely seems to enjoy the fight, which makes him a different kind of threat to anything Mark has faced before.
Nolan is back in the mix and the episode deals with the weight of him returning to Earth and what that means for Debbie. She is not over what happened. Seeing him again, even fighting on the right side, is not a simple thing for her and the episode does not pretend otherwise.
The Coalition of Planets storyline is also building properly now with the Viltrumite War clearly on the horizon. Episode 5 sets the stage for what the final three episodes of Season 4 are going to be about.
